What Goes Around Comes Around...

According to http://www.swradioafrica.com two suspected killers of the MDC-T official Cephas Magura died within two days of each other under mysterious circumstances. Eric Katiza, one of the seven arrested over the murder, collapsed and died while on remand, in Mutoko Prison on Tuesday 10th July 2012. His uncle Tangwe Chionerwa, also implicated in Magura’s death, later collapsed and died at the funeral.

In Zimbabwean Shona culture it is believed that when a person dies as a result of foul play or dies feeling wronged then his/her spirit will bestow misfortune on the person or family responsible. This spirit is known as ngozi.  Social commentator Professor Claude Mararike states “ngozi is an expression of disapproval when it comes to actions that result in taking away life”. The function of ngozi is more of deterrence rather than retribution. Ngozi can be likened to the Indian concept karma, which is defined as an action, seen as bringing upon oneself inevitable results, good or bad, either in this life or in a reincarnation or the better known western adage what goes around comes around.

In trying to explain Katiza’s death it has been said that he was ill before being arrested but no explanation was given for Chionerwa.

Read the story for yourself and be the judge, is it coincidence or karma/ngozi?
